Did 1st oil change....So nice to work on American mad cars again.

Recommended Posts

I hit 5,000 miles. I wanted to get some fresh oil in before the real old weather hits.

Mobil 1, 5-30 and motor craft filter.

Even with the belly pan, this was one of the easiest oils changes I have done in a long time. My last 2 cars have been European, (Audi and Volvo) and the wife has a Mazda.

It was just very clean and easy to work on.

I plan on now sticking to an 8,000 mile oil change schedule. Rotated the tires too.

My 07 Honda Civic had its oil filter behind the engine so i had to take the wheel off to get it off. So this car is so much better. Changing the tranny fluid is also easy. I'm almost at 5K miles myslef so i'll be getting ready to do my second Oil change too. I'll be doing Amsoil fluids and PureOne filters.

I have to agree, changing oil on these is about as easy as you could ask for. Almost as easy as my first car, which was a 2000 Mustag...but I had a 2003 King ranch F-150 before this and that filter was a royal pain to get at.

I've decided that since I drive pretty spiritedly, I'm going to change oil every 5-6,000 miles. My first oil change I used Motorcraft Full Synthetic/Mobil 1 filter. I just did my second oil change a week or so ago and I went with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic/Mobil 1 Filter. I think my next change I am going to give Amsoil a try.

Been using Mobil 1 in all my cars since 1992.

Only thing that's changed has the price has tripled.

Mobil 1 is what I use in everything too. So whats the general consensus on change intervals? By my computer it looks like it's gonna take me to 10k. Anybody going by what the car is telling them to do? In both my wife's and daughters Hybrids (Fusion & Escape) I have been doing them at the 10k mark as suggested. Never had a problem with those. 115k on the escape and 45k on the fusion. I'm only at 3300 on the SHO.

Most on this board are tagetting 8,000 miles. thats my plan. unless something extreme happens. like I am driving to Orlando mid march, will do 3,000 miles inside 10 days. i will prolly do a fresh change before that trip which will be at around 5,000 mile interval.

I have quick question for someone with a 2010 SHO like I have. It's recommended 5-20 not the 5-30 that the 2011-2013 recommended. Has anyone switched & any results. By the way use nothing buy Vavoline. They sponsor local dirt track races

that I love & my dad, long gone Mopar guy he was & I was till they took our money then closed a plant in town, wouldn't use anything else. From my viewpoint glad that Chrysler did close it, as I ended up with the SHO that I love.

FORD just sent me a postcard saying I am estimated to be overdure right now at 5000 miles. The computer tells me I have a long way to go and I'm only at 3600 now. I think I may just go with 7500 changes' date=' MOBIL-1.... I love my SHO :)[/quote']

You do know you can change the oil change interval to whatever you would like, I have mine set to change at 3000 miles...since every 10% (that's how the computer figures equals 750 miles) you should set your to either 60 or 70% 60%=4500 miles, 70%=5250 miles.

I do not think the change interval can be switched on a 2013 as it is more than just a counter, 2013 uses the new "intelligent oil-life monitor"

Rumbelbat, are you using regular MOBIL-1 or the extended performance version? I am planing on switching my 2010 from a 5K OCI with motorcraft 5W-20 blend and a motorcraft filter to a 10K OCI using MOBIL-1 extended performance and a M1 filter.

You are right about the IOLM. I had the same system on my '11 Mustang GT. The sensors and they are numerous monitor your driving techniques, as well as engine run time. During last winter, when I did numerous cold starts in below zero weather, it automatically told me to change at 3500 miles, because of the cold starts. Normally I was doing twice a year or 5000 miles. I did my first change at 3000 miles (Mobil 1, 5W-20) and then followed the IOLM or the 5000 mile limit I set myself.

The engine never used a drop of oil from day one up until I traded it two weeks ago, at 27300+ miles. I have been using Mobil 1 since 1978, to include three years in Germany from '79 to '82, with a 5.0 Mustang. I have never had oil use or engine problems, so I will most likely stick with it.

I'm going to use Mobil 1 in my 13, when I'm ready to change. It's all I've used in my 02 Vette since I got it and since both cars require 5w-30, it will work out good. I track the Vette 2-3 times a year and with 61K on the LS1, it has never used a drop of oil. I do Blackstone oil analysis ever change and everything continues to look good. The 13 has an intelligent oil monitoring system, similar to the on my Vette. Only difference is on the SHO it doesn't look like you can check the oil life percentage left until it hits 10%.

I just did my first oil change. Amsoil 5w-30 signature series and their EAO17 filter. I only put in enough miles to justify a once a year oil change so I get 5 years worth at a crack. I didn't even have to put it up on ramps to change it. Just jacked up one side and plenty of room. Very easy to do. Jason

Do you have to drop the belly pan to get to filter and plug? Which side to you need to jack up? Details please.

I was quoted $38.00 for oil and filter change from my local ford dealer. I may just let them do it for that. The Autozone oil special will still cost me with the 6th quart about that. FOMOCO semi synthetic. Being anal that I am, I will more than likely change it every 3-3500 miles anyway.

My '11 has the oil life monitor, so I don't think it was new for '13. Going by that, I've been changing around 8-9k intervals. Did the first few at the dealer, and did the last one myself. The oil filter is easy to get to, but it's still a pain when you first loosen it, and all the oil above it gushes out.

This!! ^^^ Amsoil is theee best oil period!! Not a seller or dealer, just stating the facts. It beat all other oils in the industry in every test they do. Mobil One (for example) is trying to catch up to Amsoil with it's 15k drain intervals but Amsoil has been doing this for years and years. And they have the signature series which offers 25k mile drain intervals.

Now if you race it hard and are more aggressive I wouldn't go that long to drain it, but if you want the best, this is it.

If 80% of Nascar uses it....enough said.

the 10, 11 & 12 have a oil percentage counter. 13 was the start of the intelligent oil life monitor.
