Reset diagnostic trouble codes through Nav screen

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is already common knowledge, but I accidently stumbled across this "Bezel Diagnostics" screen recently. To access it, you have to press 3 and 6 (hard buttons) on the radio console simultaneously for about 5 seconds. A screen will open and start preforming a "speaker walk test" which will send a tone to each of the individual speakers to test their functionality. You can let that test run or just press the "end test" and you will be led to the "Bezel Diagnostics" screen where you can run a series of tests on the CD/DVD/Nav system. There is also an option to check and clear DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). Im pretty sure these DTCs do include "check engine light" issues.

We spoke about this in person yesterday at the W.O.W. show, and I'll echo the sentiments of the others who have posted thus far..... great find! :thumb:

Rep points added for providing never seen before (or posted before I should say) info such as what's contained here! :hail:

Thank you on behalf of the ENTIRE community. :yo:

Hey MKS owners, I just confirmed that it also works on our cars. I love the speaker test. I try to run a similar test myself every now and then to see if all the speakers are working or not, this is so much easier and way more effective. I love the ability to view DTC codes and clear the codes as well. Thanks local17bri ! Rep points!

This is interesting and something that I was thinking of last week. Was trying out the vehicle health report, but nothing happened on the phone. I had to sign up for it like with the sync system updates. Thing was as I saw what it was sending I wondered if it was hooked up to the car computer, as sync is its own computer. From here I was wondering if anyone opened the sync system outside of what is available stock. Didn't find anything but some replacement called lockpick. Depending on what is available maybe once opened up we can add something to show real time info that it has access to, and maybe some of the visual items now like colors.

On topic: of diagnostics we can hold the reset button and while holding it start the car. This will show some info in the speedo message window. [Reset button for trip, avg. mileage, low tire pressure, etc.]

I was wondering the other day if we had any options like this as well. My 99 Mustang had it where you could do some kind of sequence and it would show you some diagnostics but also a setting that showed a digital readout of the tach, which I thought was awesome then. It only showed up on the small digital display below the speedometer though. I too wonder what the 2013 has that is similar. The touch screen will not let you press two presets at once.

I tried this out and it sort of worked on my 2010 SHO. I could get the speaker test to work maybe 1/15ish times of pushing the buttons. Then once I pushed the button to end the test, the menu with all the options would appear for only about 3-5 seconds max then disappear. If I pushed one of the options it would stay on but as soon as I would go back to the main menu it would disappear back to the home screen. Just wondering if this is how it is for everyone else or am I doing something wrong?

Was the car on or off when you tested? I had a little trouble at first, then did it with the car on and there were no issues. Though it could have been a coincidence, because other variables included my phone being connected via Bluetooth and also Pandora.

Yes, car was on. I was driving home from work and also had Pandora streaming through bluetooth. I guess I'll have to give it another shot and see if it wants to act different this time.
