I want to be one of the cool kids too and buy a SHO, but I'm wondering what the reliability is like for the first model years. Right now I drive just a regular 2010 Taurus SEL, and it's been a tank with absolutely no reliability issues whatsoever, but at night when I close my eyes I dream of being behind the wheel of one of those 3.5s. SO... I'd rather avoid a huge car payment, so if I did buy a SHO it would be an older one with similar miles as my current Taurus. Any 2010 to 2012 (or even newer) owners that have above 50,000 miles or even up to 100,000 miles that can enlighten me on how their reliability has been? I'm sure I'll have more repairs with a SHO than my SEL since it's more complex with bells and whistles and stuff, but I'd still like to avoid a headache if I can. I've heard horror stories about the SHOs manufactured in 2009 and early 2010, but as far as models after that go, I can't find much on long-term reliability. Thanks so much everyone!! The gaskets on the oil supply & return lines (for each turbo) went through like 4 revisions before they finally figured how to prevent them from leaking. Everything else is/was contigent on prior maintenance. If performed religiously, the block, trans, turbo's, etc. were all fairly bulletproof. If not, well then, meh...... it would be questionable. chessboxer Posted June 9, 2016 Report Share Posted June 9, 2016 I bought mine in 2013 with ~40k miles on it. It has 86 or 88k now and has been great. I have kept up with maintenance and for all 40k+ of those miles, the car was on the stage 3 LMS tune. shobiz Posted June 19, 2016 Report Share Posted June 19, 2016 My 2011 has about 85k miles now. Here's what's been fixed/replaced since I've had it (I bought it with about 26k miles). PTU repaired three times under warranty. Seems really good now. Glove compartment latch replaced. Rear sunshade motor replaced. Front seat heaters don't seem to get very warm any more. I had a 2010 SHO with a Livernois stage 4+ and now have a 2011 Lincoln MKS Ecoboost with the same stage 4+ and CAI. Ive been driving this car hard for 3 years now, put close to 100,000 k on and all I've had to change besides regular maintenance like wiper blades, tires etc, is the battery. mjhpadi Posted February 15, 2017 Report Share Posted February 15, 2017 I love my 10 and it has been very reliable. But then again, I have less than 38K on it...it isn't my DD. I've had a few problems, nothing major, and did upgrade my brakes to EBC rotors and pads, which improved the braking.
