armyguy1993 Posted January 26, 2017 Report Share Posted January 26, 2017 Hey guys, New to this forums. Currently looking at a 13 SHO PP. Have some questions. Car has 53k miles. The gentleman who turned it in was a car enthusiast so I am certain he took care of it. He bought it at the dealer, had it serviced there and then re sold it to them. It's in immaculate shape. The dealer is asking 21,777. They wont take less than 21,500. What are all the hot spots I should look at for on these cars? Is 53k miles high for the price they are asking? I'm guessing they wont budge on price considering they personally know the guy who traded it in and how well maintained it was. Thanks!! Maintenance is tantamount to your experiences with purchasing this used. Trans, PTU, Rear Diff should have been all changed at least once by now, if not more than that. Check over turbo piping, including, but not limited to, the turbo oil supply and return lines. That would be a "quick list" I'd throw out to you. I'm sure others will chime in with any additions thereto. Good luck with your intended purchase! These cars are a blast in their own right(s). What color? Sunroof? And if they can't show you service records that show that the PTU and rear differential have been changed at least once...it will put you in a much stronger bargining position. Remember Ford says the PTU fluid doesn't have to be changed for 100K miles. Most of us change at 20-25K miles depending on how hard you drive the car. But if they won't budge on the price then insist that they change all fluids...PTU, rear differential, and oil and filter before you say yes. Once they are aware that you know of the PTU needing frequent changes and that the rear differential needs much more regular changes than Ford recommendations, they will know you have been doing research. And DO NOT get need the car if they insist that the PTU doesn't need a fluid change until 100K...that is bunk! At 20-25K we have found the PTU fluid has already started to get thick and nasty. Don't weaken on that point. Also, is the SHO you are looking at have the Performance Package? If it does, you may ask them to throw in a spare tire with your deal, since PP cars do not come with a spare...only a compressor to pump up a flat tire. That said, the price doesn't not seem unreasonable, but also be sure to ask for the VIN so you can look up the original sticker on the car...or have the dealer provide a copy of the sticker for you. That way you will know exactly how the car came equipped. Good luck with the deal, love my SHO and you will love yours if you purchase it. Good luck and keep us updated with how it is going. That bit me in the rear with mine! Once out of warranty those TSBs are all yours to take care of. My thought is if they are going to charge top dollar for the car, they need to make sure all the TSBs are done along with any recalls. Also they came up on my trade (13' F150 FX4) so I was happy. I did buy the warranty through the dealer which gave me bumper to bumper until 113,000 miles. One issue I already noticed today was the right side BLIS module is INOP. Intermittently working. Funny how it didn't do it at all when I test drove it...who knows. They are going to take care of it next week anyway. I don't know about any previous service or mods besides regular oil changes. I had my buddy who works at Ford run the VIN on Oasis to see if it had been in the system for anything. Still waiting on his feedback. Like I said the gentleman who traded it was an older guy who was a car enthusiast and ended up buying the owner of the dealership, 17' Explorer Platinum. He could have had mods on it, idk. I am defiantly excited to be driving this. Always wanted one. Can't wait to get into some mods. I do have an SCT X4 from my F150. Deciding if I should have Livernoise or 5 star write my tune for me. I have a good relationship with 5 star, I might be able to get a free tune from them. Thanks for all the help and am glad to be here. I would def have the PTU fluid changed asap, more so for peace of mind, and to see what condition it is in. Livernois and Unleashed are the most trusted for the SHO. I was told the procedure is a little more in depth with the non-PP vs PP. Actually on the 13's up it's a fairly easy job, the PTU has a drain plug, so it's pretty easy to change the fluid. On the 10-12 Ford says the PTU must be removed from the car, but that's not true, my dealer is a BG dealer and they remove the fluid by sucking it out of the fill plug and then cleaning the unit and installing new fluid. SHOdded Posted January 29, 2017 Report Share Posted January 29, 2017 Only the 2013+ SHOs that have the Performance Package (and Police Interceptors) will have a PTU drain plug, With either of these vehicles, I believe removal of the rear (bank 1) downpipe is needed to get to the drain plug.
