how spensive can be a repair of a head gasket in ford quick lane ?

It's very expensive. $1,000 just for a water pump replacement. So figure at least double. Very labor intensive.

Water pump typically at an independent shop is 1500-2000$, so best to figure 2500-3000$ for a head gasket, double like Brian said.

Are head gaskets a weak point in these or is failure a rare occurrence?

Have not heard of any failures with proper care and not some crazy tune by a fly-by-night tuner.
