markssho
Been thinking about getting some caliper covers, maybe MGP. Thoughts? Also, thoughts on what color I should get for my Cinnamon SHO? Was thinking black.... Thanks!
bpd1151
I think that the black would be nice.... Although white on top of a cinnamon background would look sharp too. I saw that you posted in the hood stripes section also about rock'n some black hood stripes. My suggestion would be to decide on two, primary alternate colors, & if you're gonna do a third, make sure that it is very suttle. In other words, do the black hood stripes and black caliper covers (like you want), but to really make them stand out & pop, perhaps do the actual 'SHO' lettering on both of those mods in white. Now that would look killer. Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
mjhpadi
Here's what the silver look like: That's the rear wheel. Here's the front wheel: Sorry you can't see the lettering, but it's the only shot I have. Also don't forget when you are ordering to mention that you have a 2010 SHO so that the necessary front wheel spacers are included with the covers. markssho
Thanks for the info! I'm leaning towards a black hood stripe and black caliper covers with white 'SHO'. Though...'SVT' would look good too....
mjhpadi
I think the black stripe and black covers would look awesome. Also let me know if you would like any installation tips.
bpd1151
I'm leaning towards a black hood stripe and black caliper covers with white 'SHO'. Gee that sounds like a great choice (I wonder who suggested that?). Ha! Anyhow Mark, I did send you that info you were looking for via PM. Hope it works out for you. Don't forget, the creator of those stripes is also a member here on the great EB, so be sure to inquire about, or specify that white lettering as an alternate to the "normal" striping that he cuts.... He may have to cut the white letters separately from the stripes. But either way, I think it's gonna look killer on that Cinnamon background. mjhpadi
I have black MGP covers on my Cinnamon SHO. I will take photos later today so you can see. Please do, I would love to see how good the black CC's look on your car...thinking they look pretty good!:thumb:
classiccars
I'm the guy that makes the "SHO" hood stripes. I'm not sure what colors the caliper covers come in. Or if you are able to paint them the way you want. I think if you are able to get the caliper covers in black with the SHO letters in silver that would look great. I can then make you some solid black hood stripes with silver SHO letters that would sit on top of the stripe. It would look something like this: That is how I have my personal vehicle done. Let me know when you are ready. Thanks Ken
bpd1151
Ken, Thanks for posting up here on our EB Forums. Hope all is going well with you. That image you posted looks sick and is essentially what I suggested to fellow forums member markssho. He has a Cinnamon SHO & he was desiring to do both his caliper covers, & your hood stripes in black. I suggested to him if he really wanted to make both items "pop".... that he should have the "SHO" lettering done specifically in white. So i'm sure the image you have there, will help him out quite a bit in being able to actually "see" 1st hand, what the concept was I had bouncing around in my head. Great job my friend :thumb: Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
mjhpadi
The lettering on the caliper covers is actually stamped and recessed into the caliper cover. I imagine that if Ken had a tracing of the caliper lettering he could cut letters that would fit into the recess and cover the lettering that is already on the cover..hence you could have the cover in the color of your choice and the lettering in the color you chose. Just for reference the covers do not get warm from braking, so I don't believe heat would be a problem for vinyl letters.
mjhpadi
I would be willing to send Ken a tracing the next time I have a wheel off...once the weather is warmer here.
bpd1151
Or if it were me, & I was that bent on getting a specific color etc.... I would be sending the actual cover(s) to Ken himself for proper fitment, measurement(s), etc. But that's just me. It would work out in everyone's benefit truthfully, cuz then Ken would have it "on file" so to speak, and then others (who purchase those covers) could then just hit him up for it in the future as it applies to each future order. mjhpadi
That's what I would do too...but some may not want to chance mailing the cover around....
classiccars
Let me try to understand how these caliper covers come. The nice photo posted earlier in the thread shows them being silver and what looks like to be black SHO letters. Were these letters painted black (In the recessed areas) by the caliper cover factory or by the owner? Can you order silver caliper covers w/black letters and/or black caliper covers w/silver letters? What are the options offered from MGP? I like the option idea of the different colors for the recessed letter area. I'm not sure a vinyl insert would work out the best. I would like to see them painted on. It wouldn't be that hard to paint being the letters are recessed into the cover(s). Paint it any color you want. I can then match those letters to the letters on the hood stripe. mjhpadi
Ken, my covers came with the recessed letters painted in black, however for the other stock colors of the covers I believe all come with silver letters. Other stock covers are black and red...the silver is more of a brushed aluminum look, not paint. Also the hex head areas on the covers are also stamped and painted. SHOSKER
I just tried installing the MGP covers last night and had issues with the front and back. The MGP clips that go on the end of the calipers were actually rubbing the rotors. I've had the brake TSB done so I'm not sure if those calipers are different than the ones MGP might have built off of. If anyone has any tips, I would greatly appreciate it. mjhpadi
They will fit, but the clips will be very close to the rotors, maybe a millimeter or less clearance on both sides. It takes a time to get them on just right but they do fit without rubbing...mine do, and I have had the brake TSB done. Just take your time and be very careful as you tighten them down and check several times but they will clear.
blackonblack
If anyone is interested in a set of four covers, I have black ones with white lettering that says "SHO". I put one of them on the front and had the issue of the clip rubbing the rotor. I ended up just painting my calipers black. The kit comes with clips for front and back, and also spacers for the front wheels. If interested let me know.
