MrPGAPro
I hear a rattling noise for like 2-5 seconds when I start the engine when the car has been sitting for more than about 2hours. It goes away and even if I rev the engine right after hearing it, it doesn't do it. The car runs great...? Any ideas?
SHOdded
Oil Filter? Oil brand/weight? Cam Phasers? Most likely culprits.
Crash712us
Nothing wrong with your car, them are normal sounds. All though oil filter brand and oil weight does have a effect on the noise. Cheap oil filters with inferior anti drain back valves allow oil to drain back out system, and upon start you hear the clatter from cam phasers and high pressure fuel pump. Until oil pressure and fuel pressure are up, so a 1-2 sec clatter totally normal. Longer may indicate time for a oil change or a poor quality oil filter. mrhighcaliber
bpd1151
I agree with crash712us..... These Eco motors are fairly noisy overall, including at start up. Most have heard the clickety clack of the HP fuel pump. Others have found out exactly what Chris is describing about the cheaper grade of oil filters. Don't fret, as explained, it's normal. mjhpadi
That's what my thought was when first reading the post, it was the noise from the HP fuel pump...I know it took a bit for me to be comfortable with the noise from the pump.
