smokingozzy
Changed my oil for the first time myself a couple of days ago since the Lincoln maintenince plan expired. What a piece of cake. Took probably a half an hour or so! Put in 5.5 quarts of RP 5w-30 and a Motorcraft FL-500 filter.Owners manual says 5.5 quarts but according to the dipstick it still seems a half a quart low??? SHO Rod
How long did you wait to check level after pouring the oil in and letting the engine run for a few seconds? -Rod
SHOdded
6.0 quarts for the 3.5NA/3.5EB, per the owner's manual. Diff is that the NA version uses 5W20, the EB version uses 5W30. In the Edge application however, the spec does call for 5.5 quarts. So you are actually 1/2 quart too low if you only added 5.5 quarts AND did an oil filter change. SHO Rod
The owner's manual for my 2011 SHO specifies 5.5 qts. -Rod
SHOdded
You are right! The 5.5 applies to 2010-12 SHO/MKS, I was looking at the 2013 SHO, a.s.s.umed it was the same for prev years. brucelinc
So the question becomes did they really change the size of the pan or anything else....or did they just decide 6 quarts was better? I think this change took place at the same time they said to forget about the 5000 oil changes and just rely on the maintenance monitor. I used to put 5.5 quarts in my 2010 and then add the other 1/2 quart after around 2500 miles. For the past few changes I have just put in 6 quarts from the beginning and the level is perfect between the two holes in the dipstick. smokingozzy
Thanks everyone ! I added a half a quart more and now the dipstick reads properly ! When ever I got it back from the dealer and checked the oil it always read a half quart low also. I dont think that they every looked at the stick or were tring to cut costs by not adding the extra half quart.
