armyguy1993
Long story short. 13' PP with 53,800 miles. I bought the bumper to bumper warranty ($100 deductible) which covers me until 113k miles. It cost me just under $3,000. I have until the end of the month to cancel it. I am having some doubts about it now and I don't know if I want it. I don't know how long I will actually keep the car. I feel like if i cancel it, it will be bad karma and something will happen. I do however still have the factory power train for another 6k miles. What do you all think?
bpd1151
I've never been a fan of warranties. But there are others who feels completely different. I think it's entirely a personal decision, and subjective to your own opinions, experiences, and even your own mechanical DIY abilities, along with whether or not you have a "hook up" nearby who can assist you beyond any DIY abilities of your own. mjhpadi
I recently purchased the Ford Extended Warranty for my SHO, it only cost 500 a year for complete coverage....thought it was a reasonable price for the coverage since my car has less than 38K and I plan on keeping it for the foreseeable future. I'd say it depends on your feeling. I can tell you that I turned in an Extended Warranty and you really get squat back for what it costs. I would check to see if it would be worth it to cash it in or for the little you get back, probably better to keep it. Also I believe it is transferable if you get rid of the car, hence increasing value slightly. stealbluesho and SHOdded
stealbluesho
Do you think over the next few years that you are going to blow through at least $3100 in warranty work? That would be a blown tranny, or PTU, or couple bad turbos... I personally am a fan of having an emergency fund to cover incidents or at a minimum a credit card in reserve. Otherwise you are paying upfront for something... and if you are putting the extended warranty on a credit card you are adding interest on top of the costs... EDIT: if you are planning on modding the car then you add the possibility of a void warranty. You HAVE to consider that as well regardless of what people say. tss
I got the top Ford ESP warranty after my certified Lincoln warranty expired. Cars covered to 125,000 miles or August 2019. Never looked back. I would absolutely do it again. No, I have not made my money back on it. It's just a piece of mind. And a reason that I don't worry at all if something goes wrong. And, it's the reason I have kept this car so long. If I did not have the warranty, I guarantee I would have spent a lot more money on another car already. And with all that said, this Lincoln has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever had. I just know that if something goes wrong, it's going to be a big Bill. ghwinokur
I have173,000 basically trouble free miles on my 2010 SHO. At 169,000 had to replace the torque converter, $2,700. Other than that, mostly just routine service. Between 53,000 and 113,000, just based on my experience, I wouldn't expect any major problems. Mine runes great, doesn't burn a drop of oil. Had an O2 sensor, and a left rear wheel bearing. I think that warranty runs out too soon for the $$. J Persons
I've had several turbo equipped cars in the past, and could have kicked myself for not getting the warranty. With all the electronics and hardware on a SHO, it's just a matter of time until something quits working.
