Lesterg69
Hi all, I am new to forum and I have a 2011 SHO non p/p with Borla exhaust and K&N CAI. I am wanting to get vehicle tuned and was debating between a local speed shop who does all of our shop tunes on vehicles we modify, or to go with the Livernois tuner. The local shop has not done a SHO but has done a couple of F150 tunes. I have read several threads about the Livernois tunes, but would it be better to buy a plug and play tune or have a custom tune done with my car on the dyno. Just looking for some helpfull advise. mjhpadi
I believe you will not find someone who has done more work with the SHO and the Ecoboost engine then Livernois. I know I am very pleased with Livernois. They are a sponsor here and offer super customer service. I think it's a "no-brainer" as to which one to choose. BTW,:welcome: glad you've joined us and hope you find your time here helpful and informative.
tss
I have to agree. I went with LMS because they have done so much tuning on our engines and have torn our engines apart. They literally know them inside and out. I could not be any more pleased with my tune or the personal attention I received. The fact that they have tuned so many vehicles with no failures, means an awful lot to me.
darreli
Hey Lester, I would honestly say it depends on what you're looking for...I'm obviously a huge supporter of LMS. With your combination you can be sure that Livernois has that file down..they've dyno tuned a bunch of cars with a similar or exact combination..I will go on a limb and say Dan Millen has the Ecoboost platform down more than any other tuner. If you don't plan on running anything out of the ordinary..a canned program from LMS will be as good as any other...especially if your tuner doesn't have alot of experience with ecoboost. The programming on this car is crazy!!! I say that because I've only really seen a handful of sections of PCM and there are hundreds upon hundreds of parameters and tables just within what I've been privy to see. If you're planning on running a wild combination I would say a local tuner and a dyno tune would be preferable.for safety reasons.
Crash712us
And plus LMS has the MyCal tuner which I believe is exclusive with them. And allow them to access more parameters that aren't available with the SCT tuner. For me with my mods the Mycal tuner was 53hp gain.
Lesterg69
Thank you all for the info I think I will go with LMS tune I do like the option of having 4 levels of tune to choose from at any time.
mjhpadi
You won't regret it. I ran the Stage 2 tune for several months and then went to the "dark side" and have been running the Stage 4+ ever since!
Lesterg69
Any issues running stage 4 at all times and do you need to replace thermostat with LMS tune
bpd1151
I ran several (daily driven) months on the 4+ tune w/o experiencing any type of negative issues whatsoever. I am now running a modified version of what's been termed "Stage 5". Again, no issues. As far as the T-Stat goes, you can change that at any time, regardless of whether you're running a tune, or not. mjhpadi
Any issues running stage 4 at all times and do you need to replace thermostat with LMS tune I have not changed the thermostat and have not experienced any issues with any of the LMS tunes. Scrming
One thing to remember... "Canned" tunes are a LOT better then in the past... Now that Ford is using WIDEBAND O2 senors, I believe "canned" tunes are a lot more spot on...
tss
I also am running 4+ with no T-stat change and no issues.
nameneeded
In the end custom tunes are better but they take alot of time on a dyno with an experienced tuner but will achieve better results than a canned tune. That is usally because thresholds are pushed which means more risk ands usally means alot more money. Canned tunes tend to be what the tuning company has determined to be within a safe margin. Wouldn't want to be putting out tunes that while providing great gains also kill engines. And thats where specialized companies come in... Livernois seems to be quite focused on what they spend time tuning (based on the net reading I have done) and are reputable. They are competative with the cars they offer tunes on and have prob found some of the limits they can push a tune to. And it is that you can rest easy with. They are in the business of offering a blanket product that will give us some fun vs a risky one. Also based on the quick responses to customers (based on comments from members here and other (non ford) forums you can count on them for support. I have a custom tuned car and rather than play with tuning this one I'm am going to take advatage of a team of experienced tuners like Livernois.
