Leadfoot
Hello everyone, I've been reading posts on this site and the "other" Taurus forum for some time, but have not posted since I don't have the car yet. I ordered a black on black SHO with every option except the moon roof. I went back and forth on PP or ACC (and am still second guessing myself), but settled on ACC. It will be built the week of the 19th and be delivered end of November/ Beginning of December. I sometimes drive 6 hours for my job and 1-2 MPG and adaptive cruise should be nice, plus having summer tires in December in PA can be scary/ fun (unitentional four wheel drifts on jughandles and looking at the road ahead through the passenger window when punching it in third gear, in the Roush before changing tires). December/January mods are springs and tinting. A tune once I get 1-2K on it, to make sure there are no new car bug issues, and to get a baseline of the performance. Haven't decided on Eibachs or H&R yet, but several members seem to have gone from the Eibachs to the H&Rs, so I am leaning in that direction. I am looking forward to having a lot of fun with the SHO and being part of this forum.
tss
Welcome - looks like a nice stable of cars you have (not only the SHO, but the Stangs, XR7, etc). We love pictures, so post them up when the car arrives - in the meantime, how about one of the Cougar? Your proposed mods and timeline make sense. Maybe think about a CAI as well? Differing opinions here on that, but my best 0-60 time (4.47) came after I installed the CAI. I only have a LMS tune and Airaid CAI....and the MKS starts out slower than the SHO.... Lots of good folks and good information here! Todd
Leadfoot
I just updated my album with a couple pictures of the Cougar. I bought it after it was sitting for 30 years, body's solid but needs a total restoration. the front floor pans need replacing and the engine is seized. So interior, exterior, suspension, engine, brakes, etc. But I can't start the Cougar until the 66 is done for my wife... too many projects not enough time. I am on the fence about the Air raid. many members have it, but no real "seat of the pants improvement" reported. It looks nice though. mjhpadi
:welcome: Once you have the car, you won't second guess the ACC choice. Having now driven with it, it is sweet. Nice to not have to fool with the cruise when you get to traffic, since it maintains following distance and speed. Makes driving with regular cruise seem like a chore. Leadfoot
I'm hoping that is the case. With the normal cruise in the LS, it seems that people only get out of the way after I cancel the cruise or reset to a lower speed. Then go back to the speed i had, only to repeat the process :-(
bpd1151
Welcome aboard EBOF :welcome: Lots of great info here as I'm sure you've come to find whilst lurking amongst the shadows. Thanks for actually registering and stepping forward. Much appreciated :thumb: We look forward to your involvement, as well as your experiences with the SHO. If you happen to know the VIN already, there may be a slight chance I can pester the people I know over at the Chicago Assembly Plant and see if can't acquire pictures of it for you actually getting built throughout each stage of the process! Mind you, these won't be like super high quality photos that my photographer is known for capturing, but they'll be digital images nonetheless. Let me know. Otherwise, until then, let the anticipation grow, and rest assure knowing that you'll really enjoy your new SHO as much as the rest of us have come to. Modding it, will only enhance those experiences even further. Mike :yo:
Leadfoot
Thanks Mike! Yes, there's a lot of info available here and it is an excellent forum! I haven't got the VIN number yet, but I'll call tomorrow about it. It would be great if you could get pictures, totally understandable if none are available. Did you post the pictures from your tour, I didn't see them on the site. Normally I buy a car off the lot... this ordering delay is killing me. At least I can read about the SHO and other people's experiences to tide me over until it arrives. George
SHOdded
I'd make sure the dealer does minimum required inspection on it. If they detail the exterior, more than likely you will end up with less-than-factory-perfect paint. And on a black car, that is no good. Just a thought. Leadfoot
Thanks SHOdded for the "heads up" on detailing I'll talk to the dealer about it today when I am there, also thanks earlier for the Welcome! George
tss
I am on the fence about the Air raid. many members have it' date=' but no real "seat of the pants improvement" reported. It looks nice though.[/quote'] Yep, I was one who posted no seat of the pants difference. But now that I have had it for a week, I am noticing small changes I like, throttle response seems a tad better, idles in gear better, and even though I can't feel it is a big way, my best 0-60 is still after I installed. If somebody is expecting a night and day difference, like before and after a tune, they will be disappointed. After all, even if the 9HP claimed gain is true, that's hard to notice with powerful cars like ours - but every horse helps, right? . Leadfoot
You talked me into it :decision: it's now on my list of future mods.
tss
And its the easiest CAI install I have ever seen. 30 minutes - really. And a teaser photo too... LOL.....
Leadfoot
Hey tss, is your hood seal going in or out? I recall reading a thread about the seal orientation but can't find it now, i think the concensus was it should go out. Just wondering. tss
Ya know, I had not even thought about it. You think it is backwards? I think I would describe it as going "out". Anybody know for sure? I will post a closer up:

tss
Man, now I am confused.
Crash712us
Tss what Larry is trying to say the gasket on your airraid is on backwards, common mistake and he is correct. Instead of the gasket curving inward it should be curved outward.
Leadfoot
Hey tss, is your hood seal going in or out?I recall reading a thread about the seal orientation but can't find it now, i think the consensus was it should go out. Just wondering. I found it, but i don't know if I inserted the link correctly. (i am new at this) The thread is in the Vendor sales section, started on 12-14-11 by David@AIRAID. http://www.ecoboostownerforums.com/showthread.php?23-AIRAID-Intake-System-For-2010-2011-3-5L-Ford-Taurus-SHO-Flex-Lincoln-MKS-MKT
tss
Gotcha. I believe it is just the way the picture looks. The "curve" is on the outside of the box. On the inside of the box it is flat (goes straight up). Or am I still not getting it? Thanks for the patience.... Maybe I will snap a closer up photo..... There is a good hood seal, and I do have the prefilter, so, if I have it installed wrong, what is the risk/downside? In other words, how paranoid should I be about this? mjhpadi
Man' date=' now I am confused.[/quote']Todd, it is backwards, it should go the other way. BTW, don't feel bad, I had mine installed wrong too!
tss
Alright, I will add that to my chore list for today...darn thing keeps growing! p.s Thanks all for the proper direction!
mjhpadi
Understood, I'm planning on installing some LED DRL's this weekend and doing a "How To" when I install them, plus taking some additional photos of the car, since somehow I lost my Photobucket account and had to open a new one. Looks like the weather here will be nice enough for photos!
mjhpadi
Sorry to get off subject but Leadfood, I see you are from Nazareth....I do get down your we a few times a year. We dive at Dutch Springs. I was there the last week-end in October for Scuba Instructor Evaluations....maybe we could meet up in the spring when I'm headed down...always nice to meet another member! tss
For those wondering, I was wrong, everybody else was right.... not that I don't trust, but I just called Airaid, and it is supposed to curve OUT.....though they did say it really doesn't make any difference so long as the seal is made, but their recommendation is always curve outward. Where is that embarrassed looking smiley icon when I need it? And I too appoligize for the off topic discussion. Sorry.
