bamsho
Brought car home today, had to deal with couple snow squalls, that was interesting. Saw the PTU fluid that was removed, didn't look bad, wasn't thick and pasty, still flowed nice. Car had 33,000 on it. Total bill was $106. $33 for 2 quarts of Royal Purple, and $73 for Spangler's to perform the service. I highly recommend anyone in the central PA area to take there SHO's, MKS, Exsports there for PTU service. mjhpadi and tss
SHOnUup
PTU service = great move! Did they say how much fluid came out? Wonder if the plug had sludge build up on it? On mine the plug had a nice pile of sludge on it and was about 5 0z short. Wasn't real thick, but it wasn't to runny either. Rich
tss
I don't hear a lot about PTU failures in our cars. A few, but not many. Despite what we do to them, the tranny and PTU seems to hold up. Regardless, I WISH I had a place to do the PTU change for me. I compensate by having the rear diff and tranny changed more than needed..LOL mjhpadi
mjhpadi
Yeah, come spring, my tranny and rear diff is going to get changed.
Auggie
Bamsho, did the shop that changed out your PTU fluid have to remove the Pass side down pipe or did they suck out the fluid ? Auggie
bpd1151
I have never removed the DP whenever changing out the PTU fluid in mine. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Auggie
Bpd, what do you use to remove the PTU fluid? A pic would be nice. My 2015 has 25000 miles on the OD and do you think I should change the PTU fluid? Auggie
bpd1151
It's a mighty vac. Google it. I don't have a pic readily available off hand. I change my PTU 2x p/yr, regardless of mileage. Once in the Spring, once in the Fall. It's so easy, and the fluids so reasonably priced, it'd be stupid imho to not do it that often. Piece of mind is priceless in my corner of the world.
